Two Girls, One Cup

Hand Holding Water Cup

The images on TV, computer, and radio aren’t verifiable as actual things. They are only a representation of things, which may or may not exist in reality, which may or may not exist, itself, anyway.

Interacting with the things on the TV or Radio or Computer, feeling things from the images and sounds or wanting to act on them to change them in any way is tantamount to foolishness. You may have the power to change the objects on the device via manipulation or editing, but there is no guarantee that it will affect the object in real life unless life makes a concerted effort to imitate art. It is certainly possible to construct a system in which interactions with these devices could lead to effects the real world, but it takes a level of automation and a technical ability to simulate motions and interactions of virtual objects mapped onto the real world that very few possess.

Can you see your hand if you place it on the other side of a clear glass cup filled with water? Certainly, you can. If you attempt to touch the image of your hand on the back of the glass, you will find that it only messes up the glass, and the image of the hand will remain unharmed. Of course, it is certainly possible to break the glass, pass through the medium, and reach the hand on the other side, using either a machine or a person, but then, the image will disappear, anyway.
