Music is not an alien concept to most people, but most people can’t explain why the theme from Canon in D is so fundamental to modern popular music. The theme seems to appear everywhere. Strangely, the fixation doesn’t seem like it’s an intentional decision on behalf of musicians. Maybe it’s just the natural flow of tension and resolution, demanding of the composers’ hearts that they structure their phrases a certain way, so that they might imbue the audience with relief when listening, which is a physiological constant for most listeners.
